...Here's my parter in STUDIO 3, SKITCH HENDERSON , nicknamed by Bing Crosby for his ability to
sketch to music score on music paper as fast as you could play it. He's rehearsing the
Vermont Symphony Orchestra Skitch Hendersonwhile we were in Vermont with Ladybird Johnson
(along with lots of Secret Service personnel) for her Beautification Tour Concert.
- I was Skitch's personal audio engineer and sound consultant for several years.
An amazing talent to work for, Skitch regularly brought in the Tonight Show Orchestra
to Studio 3, my studio, formally his, to record movie sound tracks and jingles
for his production company, Clef 10 Productions.
He always used the best musicians available.

THE LOSERS

(Although PA systems in the mid '60's were typically Shure Vocal-Masters with a pair of column speakers brought in by the bands, I had installed a 100 Watt Altec A260 power amp with a pair of custom column speakers with 12 Altec 755 8" coaxial speakers and an Altec 1567A mixer with 4 Altec 21C condenser microphones and two Thorens TD125 professional turntables. Extremely high end for it's time. The bands would use their equipment and tie into the house system. ...Jim Reeves)

Genevieve and JP (photo by Jim Reeves)

Jim Pullis, charismatic entrepreneurial celebrity of Upper East Side
Manhattan night spot JP's pictured here with
Genevieve Roudiez, master chef in JP's kitchen.
His bar and restaurant, one block south of Rick Newman's
Catch A Rising Star, was unique as it served as the hub for the professional music community.
The greatest who's who celebrity jam music club to be in the '70's. And followed by TRAXX on west 72nd Street and Columbus in the late '70's and '80's. When I first met JP,
he was hawking Timothy Leary albums under both arms out side Ondine in '64. And later as the wildest bartender in New York City at the Golden '20's
and then Dr. Generostiy's bar on 73rd and Third Avenue. He was to open his own place and asked if I would care to put my professional engineering skills,
accrued from my career as engineer with Skitch Henderson, Columbia Records and The Record Plant East, into it and I sought out to build the best sounding club in Manhattan.
And that's what happened! With the help of songwriter/musician Ned Albright who scouted local talent and who spread the word in the early days.
Listed below are some of the artists who performed, jammed, whatever, simply because it was a great sounding room to play in.
